Englefield Parish Council

Welcome to the Englefield Parish Council website.  Englefield is a small parish situated in West Berkshire, 6 miles west of Reading and just over 12 miles east of Newbury. The parish is home to around 290 people and covers 3.6 square miles. It is a vibrant community incorporating a range of businesses, a primary and nursery schools, church and community organisations.

The Parish Council has five members, who represent the local community ably supported by an experienced Parish Clerk.  The Council meets quarterly and all parishioners and members of the public are very welcome to attend.

History

Englefield means Field of the Angles, a reference to a battle that was fought here in 871 AD between the Saxons and the Danes. The parish lies on the edge of the North Wessex Downs within the designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Parish Council Meetings

Parish Council meetings are generally held four times each year. Extraordinary and planning meetings are also held occasionally.

Meetings are held at Englefield Village Hall and members of the public are welcome to attend.
