Welcome to the Englefield Parish Council website. Englefield is a small parish situated in West Berkshire, 6 miles west of Reading and just over 12 miles east of Newbury. The parish is home to around 290 people and covers 3.6 square miles. It is a vibrant community incorporating a range of businesses, a primary and nursery schools, church and community organisations.
The Parish Council has five members, who represent the local community ably supported by an experienced Parish Clerk. The Council meets quarterly and all parishioners and members of the public are very welcome to attend.
Englefield means Field of the Angles, a reference to a battle that was fought here in 871 AD between the Saxons and the Danes. The parish lies on the edge of the North Wessex Downs within the designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Parish Council Meetings
Parish Council meetings are generally held four times each year. Extraordinary and planning meetings are also held occasionally. Members of the public are welcome to attend. The dates of forthcoming Parish Council meetings are:
Wednesday 20th May 2020 6.30p.m. – Annual Council Meeting and ordinary Parish Council Meeting
Due to the current restrictions in place relating to Covid-19, the meeting will be held as a remote meeting to which members of the public will be invited to join either by video conference, or over the telephone.
Unfortunately, this year’s Annual Parish Assembly has had to be postponed due to the current social distancing measures in place and the fact that this meeting can only be held face to face. We will review whether it is possible to hold this at an alternative date once the current measures are lifted.
